If you know me, you know there’s nothing I love more than late summer and early autumn around Lake Oconee. As the days begin to cool down, our local community calendar heats right up. Between world-class music, local theater, and great cause-driven gatherings, there is so much happening in Greensboro and Eatonton over the next couple of months.
I’ve put together a lineup of the biggest events I’m looking forward to attending. Mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and I'll see you out there!
August
We are kicking off the month in style on Thursday, August 6th with The Jazz Legacy Project: Cole Porter – Jazz in Technicolor at Festival Hall in downtown Greensboro. If you appreciate classic American standards reimagined through incredible live jazz storytelling, this evening is going to be an absolute treat.
Just two nights later, on Saturday, August 8th, come back to Festival Hall for Wine, Wags & Whiskers. It’s a wonderful evening dedicated to supporting local animal rescue efforts, complete with great wine, community fellowship, and a fantastic cause.
Mid-month brings us classic rock royalty nostalgia. On Saturday, August 15th, head over to Eatonton for Chicago Rewired at The Plaza Arts Center. As the premier Chicago tribute band, they recreate that iconic brass-heavy, high-energy sound that will have everyone singing along.
To round out August, theatre lovers can catch the hilarious and dramatic Young Directors Series production of The Shark is Broken at The Plaza Arts Center. This behind-the-scenes dive into the making of Jaws runs over two weekends, August 21st - 23rd and August 28th - 30th.
September
September opens with a touch of elegance. On Sunday, September 13th, the Oconee Performing Arts Society brings us OPAS: An Afternoon in Paris featuring Broadway powerhouse Christine Andreas. Part of their Candlelight Series at Festival Hall, it promises to transport all of us straight to the banks of the Seine.
Saturday, September 19th is shaping up to be an absolute blast of a day. Start your morning strolling through historic downtown Greensboro to admire beautiful vintage hot rods and classic rides at the Rock N' Roll Cruise-In Car Show. Keep the retro momentum rolling right into the evening when the legendary party band Swingin' Medallions Live takes the stage at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton for an unforgettable night of high-octane beach music.
Finally, to close out the month, OPAS is taking music straight to the streets. From September 20th through September 24th, check out the OPAS Concert Truck Series. This mobile stage will pop up in five different outdoor public spaces across Lake Country, bringing complimentary live performances right to our neighborhoods.
